Born in 1959, he studied business administration at the University of Cologne, specialising in auditing and computer science, and completed his studies with a PhD (Dr. rer. pol.) in 1986.
Following a four-year stint as managing director of Aachen Münchener Informatik-Service GmbH, he began his career in 1991 at Boston Consulting Group GmbH in Düsseldorf and Cologne. From 1995, he served as a senior partner and managing director there.
He began his career at the Boston Consulting Group initially as head of the Information Technology practice group for Germany. He subsequently held the same role for Europe and, from 2000 to 2006, was global head of the Information Technology practice group. From 2007 to 2012, he was head of the Cologne office and subsequently, until 2015, head of the Public Sector DACH practice group. In 2017, he concluded his career at the Boston Consulting Group as a Senior Advisor.
Since 2009, Prof. Dr Rainer Minz has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Cologne University Hospital and, from 1 May 2015, he has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
Also since 2015, he has been the owner and managing director of RM Consulting GmbH in Cologne and holds a teaching post at the Chair of Media and Technology Management within the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne. Since November 2015, he has been the University of Cologne’s Rector’s Representative for Alumni, Fundraising and Knowledge Transfer.
He is involved in community work through the Rotary Club Köln am Rhein, and is both a member of the Culture and Business Committee of the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce and a member of the Executive Board of Amerikahaus NRW e.V.
