Die Kölner Universitätsstiftung unterstützte die 9. European Conference on African Studies

Successful conference on Africa

Entitled ‘African Futures’, the 9th European Conference on African Studies (ECAS) took place at the University of Cologne from 31 May to 3 June 2023. Around 2,000 participants from Europe, Africa and around the world travelled to Cologne for the conference. The University of Cologne Foundation provided financial support for the opening panel ‘Is there a future for African Studies in Europe?’ and the roundtable ‘We have always been here: Unearthing Hidden Histories – Prof. Joseph Major Nyasani at the UoC’. The ‘Decolonise Cologne’ guided tours, made possible by the University Foundation, were very well received. “The conference, and the roundtable in particular, were a resounding success and attracted a great deal of attention,” says Martina Gockel, Scientific Project Manager at the Global South Studies Centre (GSSC), the main organising unit of ECAS.
