By making a donation to the University of Cologne Foundation, you support important projects at the University of Cologne. If you make an unrestricted donation, we will allocate your contribution where it will have the greatest impact at this time. However, you also have the option of earmarking your donation for a specific project that is important to your company. Of course, our other options—such as a sub-endowment or a trust foundation—are also available to you for your philanthropic efforts.
Tax Benefits of Donating to the Foundation
Donations to the Cologne University Foundation can be claimed for tax purposes as special expenses or business expenses—up to
- 20 percent of total income or
- 4 per mille of the sum of total revenue and wages and salaries paid during the calendar year (Section 10b(1), Sentence 1 of the German Income Tax Act (EStG)).
Unlike sponsorship, donations are voluntary and altruistic; they are not compensation for a specific service in return and are not to be considered in an economic context with the recipient’s services.
