With support from the Cologne University Foundation, the Institute of Biochemistry was able to carry out an extensive digitization project: the Virtual Biochemistry Lab.
The goal was to enable innovative, interactive teaching formats—with visible success.
Thanks to the funding, seminar rooms and teaching labs were equipped with the technology needed for digital and hybrid instruction. In addition, six SMART Boards, a state-of-the-art video conferencing system, 24 mini-computers for the digital integration of lab workstations, and 12 high-performance workstations for protein modeling were purchased. A digitally integrated microscope now allows students to observe cell culture processes together.
These new capabilities are already being used extensively—from undergraduate education through doctoral training.
