The Cologne University Foundation is carrying out a forward-looking student housing project in Cologne: Two modern buildings with a total of 57 apartments and 126 housing units are being constructed at the corner of Ludolf-Camphausen-Straße and Venloer Straße. The student housing complex is publicly funded and will help alleviate the strain on the tight housing market in the long term.
Various housing options are planned—ranging from single apartments to four-person shared apartments with a communal kitchen and multiple bathrooms. Two wheelchair-accessible living spaces are also planned. On the ground floor, a common area will be created featuring a café, laundry and drying rooms, and utility spaces.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with completion planned for late 2028. The total investment amounts to approximately 15.5 million euros. The majority of this will be financed through the NRW Bank Housing Support Program, supplemented by 1.8 million euros in equity from the Cologne University Foundation.
The facility will be operated in cooperation with the Cologne Student Services Organization. Future rents for students will be around 410 euros per month, including utilities, internet, and maintenance—an important contribution to affordable housing in Cologne.
Donations for a Flagship Project
To finance the equity, the foundation continues to rely on donations. Supporters can, if they wish, have their names immortalized in the building—for example, for a room, an apartment, a floor, or even an entire building. Every donation helps ensure affordable housing for students in the long term.
